German University Professors Visit PiLog Academy For ISO 8000 Curriculum Development

Professor Michael Mielke from Deutche Bahn and Kiel University of Applied Sciences (FH-Kiel) as well as Professor Olaf Jacob from Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) visited South Africa in September, 2016.

Professor Mielke visited PiLog in Centurion to participate in a one day work shop to discuss solutions relating to Data Quality in Rail Networks. Also participating were delegates from Transnet SA as well as Dr. Tim King from the UK giving a presentation on ISO 8000 part 150 as applied by Network Rail in the UK. The first week was spent in workshops where the suggested ISO 8000 Data Quality topics were modeled within the PiLog Technology workbenches with the aim of establishing a Master Data Quality Capability Assessment Model (MDQCAM), The results are earmarked to be used for the upcoming ISO TC 184 SC4 WG13 meetings as input for ISO 8000 part 60 specifications. The results will also be used by the PiLog Academy for enhancing the ISO 8000 curriculum.

The second week focused on a series of workshops with PiLog Academy held at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). Participating was Professor Louis Fourie and faculty members of CPUT, Professor Olaf Jacob from HNU, and Professor Michael Mielke from FH-Kiel and Dr Salomon de Jager from PiLog Academy. The objective is to extend the ISO 8000 Data Quality principles and models into University Curricula as well as a series of short courses for Industry.

Dr de Jager commented that it is through events like this that PiLog can remain at the cutting edge of technology and Master Data Governance and thereby ensure that the PiLog Academy can deliver world class education.

A very successful second week was concluded in traditional Capetonian hospitality with a special wine tasting event within the heart of the Bergkelder, compliments from PiLog Academy.
